WPI gauge can be used for handspun or for mystery yarns in your stash but this convenient method is also used to calculate the amount of yarn needed for a project.

Traditional WPI gauge with 1 inch long groove on the top and bottom to measure the thickness of your yarn (match numbers to compare your Wrap Per Inch number to the weight category to determine the weight of your yarn).
